The other face of "The Hipster Olympics"

Mon, 2008-08-18 15:12

Why am I posting this video? Not only is it a brilliant juxtaposition to The Hipster Olympics, there is an actual hipster sighting at 0:38 seconds.

Also, it was created by my "find of the day" Make The Road : "Make the Road New York* promotes economic justice, equity and opportunity for all New Yorkers through community and electoral organizing, strategic policy advocacy, leadership development, youth and adult education, and high quality legal and support services."

"I haven't seen performances like these since last year's Douche Bag Summer  Games out in sunny Santa Monica, California".

Ahem ...

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Snif, cough, sigh.

Today's Twittup is brought to you by the letter M

Thu, 2008-08-14 17:58

M is for monsoon, which is what's like here in NYC right now.

M is for mojitos, which is what am going to be downing with my amigos.

If you don't follow me on Twitter or haven't friended me on Facebook, you wouldn't know that am going to be at Yuca Bar (First Avenue and 6th Street), ensconced from 7PM onward, sipping my lime-minty sensations.

Twitter bombing #dontgo and false grassroots movements

Wed, 2008-08-06 10:58

dontgo.jpg

Yesterday I had a bit of fun at the expense of the Republican noise machines and their efforts to paint themselves already as a loud and marginalized minority in Capitol Hill. I was so caught up on the moment that I didn't blog about it until this morning but Kenneth Quinnell described it as a "Twitter Bomb" and has happy to spread the word :

Twitter Bomb
This wasn't my idea (although I came up with the cool name), I think Liza Sabater was the one who started it, but it's too brilliant to pass up.

Those of you who are on Twitter, send as many tweets as you can over the next few days with #dontgo in them. The conservatives are using this hash mark (like a tag) to spread misinformation about offshore drilling and their latest publicity stunt. What Liza and a few others started doing was to flood that hash with counter-commentary or irrelevant posts. Sort of like a google bomb, this can either disrupt what they're doing or, at the very least, annoy the crap out of them. We can all do this.

Whatever you're posting on twitter, try to fit #dontgo into it. And make sure you include the # sign, which is key.

If you aren't on Twitter, this might be the type of thing to get you into it.

And before I even start to explain, let me break down the lingo for you.

Kevin Powell calls out Ed Towns to a throwdown on Facebook. Boggles this blogger's mind in the process.

Thu, 2008-07-31 13:12

Lord have mercy.

I was checking my Facebook this morning when I saw on my main page an entry by Kevin Powell. So I go to check it out and what did I find?

O.M.F.G.

Just look after the jump so you can see all what Kevin needed to get off his chest. Let's just say it was more than just a couple of things.

And, mind you, I have cut and pasted the text just as it appears on the Facebook page. Exactly. I have changed not one word and have not added any spacing.

So take a peek and let Kevin now what would have been a better way to go about putting his message out to the world and US Rep. Towns.

The web's 50 most influential people in New York

Mon, 2008-07-21 08:34

NowPublic is one of the fastest growing participatory news networks in the world. Time Magazine voted it last year one of the top 50 websites and The Guardian UK declared it's one of the top 5 most resourceful news sites in the world.

They have come up with a way to measure "news influence" on the web. They insinuated that traffic to one's site and/or blog is not one of the lead indicators, but how the people listed are connected to others (especially other influencers) through social media like YouTube, Flickr, Twitter, Facebook and others.

I honestly don't know what to makeof this list. I am at the same time amused and disturbed.

For one, Arianna Huffington comes in at #2 but I thought she lived in California, not New York City. Then there's the grand daddy of the New York blogeratti, Nick Denton, coming in at #34. Yet the most disturbing data point of this list is that I come in at #9.

Yup.

I am, as per NowPublic, one of the "top ten" news influencers in the New York new media market.

George Carlin, 1937-2008

Mon, 2008-06-23 07:11

Shit
Piss
Fuck
Cunt
Cocksucker
Mothterfucker
Tits

An amazingly simple legacy of free speech, civil disobedience, philosophy of language and culture criticism all wrapped up in the guise of stand up comedy.

New York City to me has rarely been to me the voice of Woody Allen or Seinfeld. New York City has always been the voice, the "tawk" and the raunchy wit of George Carlin.

Shit
Piss
Fuck
Cunt
Cocksucker
Mothterfucker
Tits
Fart
Turd
Twat

To celebrate George Carlin as a champion our civil rights and the integrity of the US Constitution I give you thee the original stand up skit that went into the Supreme Court Decision of FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION v. PACIFICA FOUNDATION, 438 U.S. 726, 98 S.Ct. 3026 (1978).

FRIDAY GROOVE : NAS "Black President"

Fri, 2008-06-06 17:11

One of the illest songs to come out of this campaign.

Not only is NAS remixing Barack Obama's victory speech, he's thrown the immortal Tupac.
Download it here.

By the by, what do you think about the cover of NAS' album?

A get to know your New York political critters moment

Fri, 2008-06-06 09:35

In looking for information about the New York Congressional delegation's awkward non-endorsement endorsement of Barack Obama (many haven't uttered the "E" word yet because they're waiting for Clinton to say it first), I stumbled upon a liveblog written by about this sort of "Hillary Watch" non-event. Now that we are down to the wire on her "endorsement" to Barack Obama, the newspaper seems to have been getting reports flying in on what the New York political establishment did and did not do regarding Ms. Clinton's insistence in painting herself as a sore loser.

I caught myself reading the whole darn thing and was struck speechless by this :

Charlie Rangel made her do it?

Fri, 2008-06-06 02:08

Obama met with Clinton last night to discuss party unity and such things. What caught my eye on the CNN report was this bit of news :

Some of Clinton's closest supporters — the nearly two dozen House Democrats from her home state of New York — switched their endorsements to Obama Thursday.

[...]

"We're Democrats. Dammit to hell we fight. When it's over, we come together and go out there to win," said Rangel, the dean of the New York delegation.

The New Yorkers, said Rep. Gregory Meeks, have a duty "to lead this transition" to full party support of Obama.

And now that Obama is the rightful nominee, the Clintonistas begin their spin

Tue, 2008-06-03 19:10

After waging one of the most violent Presidential primary campaigns in the history of the Democratic Party, Hillary Clinton is not only NOT ready concede --even though Obama is 10 delegates away from the "magic" 2,118.

Since it'll be a day in hell before she and her faithful husban let go their choke-hold on the Democratic Party, the Clintonistas are now using every media outlet they can find to spin the Hillary as the "best" option for the vice-presidency.

The lastest skidmark on print comes right from our little city paper, The New York Observer (and apologies to Azi, whom I love and respect) :

Olbermann agrees : Hillary Clinton is unfit to be President of the United States

Sat, 2008-05-24 15:06

Yesterday I wrote the following about Hillary Rodham Clinton :

Shameless.

Despicable.

Unfit to be President of the United States.

My words hit the front pages of both Daily Kos and The Moderate Voice. By evening Keith Olbermann had the following to say about Hillary Clinton's latest "gaffe" :

The most important part of the transcript is after the jump :

    Afterthoughts

So much blood has been shed by the Church because of an omission from the Gospel: "Ye shall be indifferent as to what your neighbor's religion is." Not merely tolerant of it, but indifferent to it.

Divinity is claimed for many religions; but no religion is great enough or divine enough to add that new law to its code.
